Agreeing to these terms

Oatmeal is a Mac app made by gremlinlabs. These terms cover the Oatmeal app and this website. By downloading, installing or using Oatmeal, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Oatmeal.

If you use Oatmeal for your employer or another organization, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for them.

Using Oatmeal

Oatmeal is free. gremlinlabs gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to install and use it on Macs you own or control, for personal or work use.

Please don’t sell, rent or redistribute Oatmeal, remove its notices, or use it to break the law or anyone’s rights. Don’t take apart or copy the app’s code, except where the law allows it anyway.

Oatmeal and its name, logo and design belong to gremlinlabs. These terms don’t give you ownership of any of them.

Recording other people

Laws about recording conversations differ from place to place, and some places require everyone in a conversation to agree before it is recorded.

You are responsible for telling people and getting their permission before you record them, and for following the laws and workplace rules that apply to you. Oatmeal records only when you press Start, but it can’t know whether you have permission.

Your recordings and notes

Your recordings, transcripts, notes and summaries are yours. gremlinlabs claims no rights to them and doesn’t receive them unless you choose to send them to us, for example with a support request.

Oatmeal stores them on your Mac. Copies leave your Mac only when you export or share them. If your Mac is lost or its disk fails, they may be gone, so keep your own backups of anything that matters.

Transcripts and summaries can be wrong

Oatmeal uses AI models to turn speech into text and to write summaries, titles and takeaways. They can mishear words, mix up who said what, leave things out or include things nobody said.

Check anything important against the recording before you rely on it or share it, especially for medical, legal, financial or employment decisions.

AI models

Oatmeal downloads the AI models it needs during setup. They are made by other companies and research groups and come with their own licenses, which you agree to follow when you download them.

Connected services

If you connect Google, Slack or another service, that service’s own terms also apply to how you use it. You choose what Oatmeal may access, and you can disconnect at any time.

When you share a summary or a message, it is sent as you, to the place you chose. You are responsible for what you share and for who can see it there.

Sharing usage and diagnostics

If you allow it, Oatmeal sends anonymous usage events and diagnostics to gremlinlabs so we can improve the app. It never sends recordings, transcripts or notes. You can switch sharing off at any time in Settings.

Updates and changes

gremlinlabs may release updates that fix problems, add features, or change or remove features. Some features depend on other companies’ services and may stop working if those services change. We may stop offering Oatmeal at any time.

No warranty

Oatmeal is provided as is and as available. To the extent the law allows, gremlinlabs makes no promise that it will be free of errors, always available or suitable for any particular purpose.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, gremlinlabs is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, lost profits, or problems caused by other companies’ services or models. gremlinlabs’ total responsibility for any claim about Oatmeal is limited to 50 US dollars.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer laws where you live that can’t be waived, or limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited.

Ending these terms

You can stop using Oatmeal at any time by deleting it. Deleting the app may leave your meetings on your Mac, so delete them in Oatmeal first if you want them gone.

If you break these terms, your permission to use Oatmeal ends. The sections on recording other people, no warranty and limits on liability still apply after that.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. If you keep using Oatmeal after that, you accept the updated terms.
